"My Sweet Sixteen Speaker System"

Built by Bob Holmberg

In the late 1940s a company called McGee Radio out of Kansas City, MO came out in their catalog of that time with a hi-fi new speaker system concept called "The Sweet Sixteen".

You could buy from them a cabinet kit including Sixteen 5” speakers.  I used 6” speakers purchased from the Filmore Corporation (USA) for my 2006 version.  For two speaker boxes, you'll need two enclosures (I used book cases bought at Walmart) and 32 speakers.

The performance of this system is amazing!  You can't overdrive them.  Frequency response is excellent!

I used to build amplified speaker systems for musical groups under the name "Sound Craft".

The amplifier featuring 807 vacuum tubes was of my own design.  The basic design went back to the 1950s.

A big time collector friend of mine got the 2nd amplifier of this design that I built.  He claims it’s as good as you can find.
